Unicorns, dragons, and princes- my favorite themes in fiction reads.
It was a Sunday morning in the place where I volunteer. I asked my 6 and 7 year olds to group themselves and go to corners where they prefer. They were to witness and take part in the greatest battle of fairytales, freezing their enemies and protecting their kind.
I never believed in princes. But there he was, holding the hand of a damsel in distress on a cane. He stood by me while all the other kids ran havoc- freezing their enemies, galloping and seizing and enjoying their war of fairytales.
He bravely held my hand and just stood there, protecting me. This whimsical mystery moved me. How could he miss all the fun and running and freezing?
In the end, the unicorns won. And again, amidst the victorious win and groans of the other groups, my prince stood by me, said, “I saved Princess Li!”
I gave him an approving nod and squeezed his hand. He seemed the happiest, more than what a star stamp or a sticker could ever grant.
There’s peace in chaos. A brave one in adversity. Happiness in just a smile.
May you find yours too.
